boca-pointe-29Can you believe that…

  • Fall is right around the corner?
  • Inquiries are coming in on a steady basis through the Club at Boca Pointe’s website and Facebook page?

But why, you ask?

Because the Club at Boca Pointe has the solution to the most typical questions being asked by those who want a country club experience without the typical country club commitment.

1.  You do not have to live in the Boca Pointe community to play at the Club at Boca Pointe.  The Club is the only full service, private, equity country club in South Florida that is not mandatory.  Members join the Club because they want to, not because they have to, and may join as non-equity members.

2.  Under the unique Premier membership program, members may define their own lifestyle by not only choosing the number of months they want to be members, but also the level of activities they want.  For example, a Premier membership is available for as few as three consecutive months for the first year and then four or more months thereafter.

All of the Premier membership categories have club/ social privileges, which includes full dining (three restaurants and two lounges), use of the Sports & Fitness Complex and Club pool, access to all the social activities arranged by a social director, as well as card and Mah Jongg play.  Tennis and golf can be added to the membership for an additional fee.

“The Premier membership continues to be a huge success with a very high renewal rate,” says a proud Helen Karpel, general manager of the Club.  “We have members from areas such as Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, as well as throughout Boca Raton and all the way up to Highland Beach.

“The high retention rate demonstrates that we have the right membership programs that provide a rewarding country club experience with a reasonable pricing structure.  Many of our Premier members are accustomed to driving up to 30 minutes to the Club, which is very familiar to those from the Northeast where the clubs are non-residential.” Karpel adds.

If your only interest is golf, the Club at Boca Pointe has an Annual Golf membership program that answers this need.  It also offers lunch and lounge privileges with dining access one time a week in the main clubhouse.

The Club at Boca Pointe is all about making new friends and enjoying them for many years to come, loving life, and creating many wonderful memories.  To learn more about the many membership options, please call 561-864-8539.

BOCA-POINTE 9 (1)An excitement can be felt at the Club as people see, hear and learn that the Club at Boca Pointe offers something fun for everyone…no matter the person’s background, age or hometown – local, national or international.

Whether your passion is playing a game of golf or tennis, attending a lecture about the Middle East or a lighter subject, playing cards or Mah Jongg in the very active card rooms, enjoying dinner in the new Grand Café, dining in the two other excellent restaurants, or taking a fitness class in the Sports & Fitness Complex – there is always something to fill your calendar!  As a member of the Club at Boca Pointe you can decide how full your calendar will become each and every week!

boca-pointe-132One of the very appealing benefits of joining a country club is the opportunity to connect with other members who become good friends and share the same interests as you.  You can be sure that there is something for every personality!  For whatever free time you have on your calendar, the Club will have a great option for you to enjoy that time!  In addition to your sports and fitness opportunities, you can make dining and happy hour plans weekly as well as fill that calendar with a variety of social activities.

You can play bridge, canasta, Mah Jongg or just about any other game in the card rooms but that, too, is just the tip of the iceberg.  There are close to 300 different events scheduled during the year by Jane Young, the Club at Boca Pointe’s social director.  The events range from the only FAU Learning Center in South Florida away from the FAU campus (featuring top professors talking about interesting topics) to Broadway shows to a Showtime series with top talent coming to the Club.

Some might say, “Enough already!”  But at the Club at Boca Pointe, enough is never enough to keep the members engaged, happy and clamoring for more.  The Club at Boca Pointe is the only country club in South Florida where members can literally define their own membership—the activities when and where they want to participate.

That’s right! The Club at Boca Pointe is not your typical “father or grandfather’s country club.”  It is a club for today – it is progressive and flexible in its country club approach.  Yes, Boca Pointe has the traditional golf course, tennis, and athletic center, but that is where the “traditional” ends.

“We feature clubs within the country club that are designed to further build friendship where people of like interests can meet and share experiences,” says Helen Karpel, general manager of the “happening” Club at Boca Pointe.  “Whenever people of like interests can get together it just strengthens relations and helps build new friendships.”

Some of the Club’s groups are targeted for specific audiences such as the Boomers, Boca Unos (singles), and Today Life Continues.  Members can participate in these groups by just checking the calendar each week.  The groups offer a variety of activities catering to a targeted audience.

boca-pointe-47The Club at Boca Pointe is the only club in South Florida that offers flexible memberships where members can define their own lifestyle for as few as three consecutive months the first year while in sunny Boca Raton. “Our Premier membership program is one of the hottest tickets in town,” beams Ms. Karpel.  “Floridians and/or renters can become first time members and take advantage of the menu of opportunities offered under the Premier membership program. Former equity members – who left the Club prior to September 1, 2013 – may return as a Premier Social or Tennis member for seven to 12 months.”

The biggest club on campus is the Adventurers Club made up of more than 200 members.  Created in the 1990s, the Adventurers Club is dedicated to creating events that members would not normally undertake on their own or through the traditional club activities. There is a waiting list for join – but it is well worth the wait!

The newest group is “What’s Up.”  As its name indicates, it features speakers discussing what is happening in the world around us.  The speakers and subjects are topical and provide members with a unique perspective as to what is happening.

In addition to the Adventurers Club and What’s Up, there are many other attractive clubs – the Photography Club, Volunteer Club, and Creative Writing group to name a few. “We encourage our members to create clubs around common interests in addition to participating in the extremely active calendar of existing clubs,” adds Karpel.  “But with that said, if a member just wants to enjoy the casual Boca Pointe lifestyle, we encourage that as well…maybe sitting by the pool reading a book and basking in the warm sun sounds like the perfect day for you!

“The concept of clubs within a club is important to know about because it helps understand the robust nature of the Club’s social activities.  Simply put, the Club at Boca Pointe offers a way to make friends, create memories and love life.

The Premier membership is available from three to 12 consecutive months the first year and then from four to 12 months thereafter.  Members can pick and choose their activity level from Club/social to adding golf, tennis, or a combination of both.  Premier Members are enjoying the full benefit of a country club experience without making the traditional year-round, buy-in financial commitment of most private country clubs.  For members wishing to mainly play golf or tennis, there are also annual memberships available.

“The Club at Boca Pointe is different – it is life changing because it opens up a new world to you.  The Premier membership allows you to try it out for several months and then extend that membership once you realize what a wonderful time you area having at the Club.”  Do you want to know more?  The Club welcomes you to call 561-864-8539 to set up a visit, take a tour, and learn about the many membership options available to meet your own unique lifestyle!

The Summer Olympics are here, and at the same time, the summer games are ready at the Club at Boca Pointe’s new state-of-the-art Sports & Fitness Complex.

“Even though summer time is usually quiet around the Sports & Fitness Complex, our programs are going forward full speed ahead,” says Sherri Giannone, director of athletics and programming. “One of the keys to our success in keeping our members fit and happy is the diversity of our programs. We are always coming up with new programs…programs that will keep our members excited about coming to the fitness facility.

“Our broad demographic allows us to be very creative in designing new fitness programs that match the needs of varying interests. We have programs and classes that appeal to boomers, millennials, and our traditional country club members. There are more and more working professionals moving into the Boca Pointe community, so the Club is offering a different mix of classes and have even extended the hours of the fitness facility to accommodate them.” explains Ms. Giannone.

Examples of new programs being introduced at the Club at Boca Pointe include:

  • “The Pointe Theory” class: In this class, you are challenged with Cardio Endurance, Weight Training and Fat Burning exercises. This 45-minute workout starts with a five-minute warm-up followed by ten-minute blocks of cardio and weight training intervals. Each block of time is designed for the participant to reach an optimal performance level and achieve the fastest results possible. The workouts incorporate treadmills, elliptical equipment, rower or spin bikes, and free weights ranging between 10 lbs. to 25 lbs., depending on the fitness level of the participant.
  • “Color Stretch” class: This 30-minute class is focused on the importance of stretching and is available in the Activity Center at the Sports Complex. This guided stretch class takes you through a stretch and relaxation session with a colorful background. The Color Stretch class offers something for everyone!

Like its diverse demographics and workout programs, the Club at Boca Pointe offers diverse membership programs that will get you started enjoying all the Club has to offer. These options include the Club’s Premier membership, which allows members to both define their lifestyle and be seasonal members. “We Are Family!

Spring arrived and so did the car carriers as snowbirds headed north. At first it seemed ok.

No rushing to find a card table, no need to get up at 7:00 reserve a tee time, no need to make restaurant reservations.

Then, October came and the car carriers returned. And then it hit me…I missed my Boca Pointe family. I first noticed the buzz in the ladies locker room. Hugs, kisses, welcomes, and stories of summer adventures.

I had intended to write this then, but I am glad I didn’t, for other events have demonstrated what a family we are.

At the Chanukah candle lighting and dinner, more than 200 gathered to share prayers and a delicious meal. For those not lucky enough to have “real” family, we were family for each other. (Who expected 100s of chocolate marshmallow dreidels with Hebrew letters and a pretzel stick for a spinner!) Then came the always-successful Pap Corps luncheon and card party. Talk about love and support for family!

Again, at the opening golf and tennis dinner dance, more than 100 members were dancing, singing and just having great fun together. We are viable, we are vibrant, we are active and “we are family!”

“This Club has had a great impact on my life. The people here have been part of our lives and my family for thirty-two years. It has given us joy and lots of happiness. This is priceless. You cannot find this anywhere else.”

“We enjoy the Club and its many activities, golf is wonderful and easy to get starting times; the staff throughout the Club is outstanding, friendly and knowledgeable; the members, which make a club, are very friendly and welcoming, whether you are playing golf, social events, cards or the athletic center; we enjoy it so much here at the Club at Boca Pointe that we bought a condo and spend most of our year here, as have many of our “new” friends whom we met here at the Club!!!”

“Are you bored?

If anyone is bored at the Club at Boca Pointe, it is not due to lack of opportunities. First, recognize that others may feel the same. Try to connect with them thru people you meet at programs at the Club. What do you want to do?

Work out, take courses, attend talks, go on daily or longer excursions or trips, make new friends, listen to music or attend plays, etc.? It is all available. If you don’t know people, there are programs to allow you to meet others who may feel the same as you.

Much of this is available without leaving Boca Pointe. Thanks to Jane Young, our Social Director, who will help new people meet others, there is never a reason to be bored. When you extend your environs and go to Boca Raton, Delray, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and other nearby locations the opportunities are limitless. Concerts, plays, etc., are nearby.

It is all here if you make the effort to meet others and find out what is available. Boca Pointe is the place to be.”

This is just a sampling of the many positive member feedback comments the Club receives on a regular basis. The Club is always welcoming new members and enjoying the process of seeing them make new friends and new memories.

BOCA-POINTE 73You just moved to Boca Raton with the Atlantic Ocean at your doorstep. You probably have a small but adequate fitness room, maybe one or two tennis courts, and perhaps a card room, and of course, the beautiful view of the ocean or even the Intercostal Waterway. Yet, you still yearn to play golf, socialize or both, like you experienced at your hometown Club up north.

The Club at Boca Pointe is your answer! It is like your Club back home where you can drive as short distance to golf or enjoy other amenities, while still basking in your Florida ocean view. It offers you golf, tennis, fitness, lunch, dinner, Happy Hour, cards and many social functions. “Our philosophy is simple: you don’t have to live at Boca Pointe to play here. We’re just like the country clubs around the country where members drive 15 to 30 minutes to the club on the weekend and stay for the day. Members enjoy the same luxury at the Club at Boca Pointe. They come, they stay, they play, they eat and they socialize.” adds Karpel.

There is plenty of truth to the golf saying: “you drive for show and putt for the dough,” says Buck Deibel, director of golf at the Club at Boca Pointe, the highly popular non-mandatory equity country club in South Florida with variety of enticing golf memberships.

Golf memberships at the Club at Boca Pointe include Equity Golf, Annual Golf, Premier Golf and Sports & Fitness with Golf. Each membership is designed to provide members the opportunity to pick and choose what fits their lifestyle the best, whether or not they live in the Boca Pointe community.

“Many of our golfers lose strokes because of their short game. Hence, you have the saying about big drives and great putts. It’s the shots from 100 yards in that brings the score down;” says Deibel, “so, improving your short game is a great way to improve your score. Becoming great at chipping is an excellent way to prevent high numbers during your round.

A chip shot is any shot from close to the putting green that spends more time on the ground than in the air. In other words, the golf ball will roll more than it flies on a chip shot. The technique for chipping is fairly easy and straightforward. A chip is a short stroke; so, with the proper technique, there shouldn’t be too many things that can go wrong.

You want to make a slight, descending blow onto the golf ball to ensure solid contact. To do this, you need to set up in a way that allows you to swing your club into impact with such a slight, descending blow.

On chip shots, the golf ball should be positioned back in your stance. How far back? Set up with the ball on the inside of your back foot.

Your weight should be about 60-percent on your front foot and your sternum should be in front of the ball. Many golfers think they need to place more of their weight on the back foot, but that is a mistake: it will result in your spine tilting away from the target…and, that results in the lowest point of the swing happening behind the ball, which produces both fat and thin shots.

With your weight forward and the ball back, your hands will also be forward and on the inside of your front thigh. These aspects promote the descending blow to create solid contact.   The reason you want your body open to the target is to prevent excess hand, wrist and arm movement, which causes too much rotation of the clubface. To keep the clubface square to the arc of your swing, make sure you have a little turn of the body back and through.”

Golf members at the Club at Boca Pointe enjoy taking golf lessons and putting techniques like these into use on Boca Pointe’s beautiful 18-hole championship golf course. If you are a golfer, we encourage you to inquire about golf membership at the Club by calling 561-864-8539 to explore the many options available to you, including both year-round and seasonal golf memberships.

golfer-marks-his-position-on-a-green.jpg“Marking your golf ball on the putting green should be a simple task for every golfer, but you would be surprised how many golfers ignore some of the basics of ball-marking,” says Buck Deibel, director of golf at the Club at Boca Pointe and its beautifully designed 18-hole championship golf course.

“Most golfers think they are marking the ball properly, but they do not. Many golfers place a ball marker an inch, or even a half or quarter inch, in front of the ball,” points out Deibel, who is one of the few Master golf instructors in the Boca Raton area. “Even though a half or quarter inch does not seem like a big deal, it really is incorrect. It is always good to remind our golfers of this simple task,” says Deibel.

“Marking a ball is really simple. Place a small coin or ball marker directly behind your golf ball on the putting green. Make sure your ball marker is on the ground before lifting the ball. Never lift the ball and then place a marker where the ball was. Place marker first, lift ball second. The natural tendencies seem to be to leave a small space between the ball and marker. This is incorrect,” explains Deibel.

Here are situations in which your ball should be marked:

  • When you want to clean the ball
  • When you want to align the ball’s graphics
  • When you believe your golf ball might be in the way of another player
  • When another player asks you to do so.

If you are asked to mark the ball and do not and the player’s ball hits your ball, you incur a penalty. If the player does not ask you to mark the ball and his ball hits your ball, the penalty is on the player who did not ask you to mark it.

Boca Pointe hopes this golf tip helps you further enjoy your day out on the links! As a non-mandatory equity country club, Boca Pointe offers both equity and non-equity memberships. The Club at Boca Pointe enables members to define their own lifestyle, offering social, tennis and golf memberships.

Golfers have many membership options. For avid golfers who do not reside in the Boca Pointe community, a great membership choice is Club’s non-equity Annual Golf membership. This membership is focused on golf and entitles the member to unlimited golf play along with lunch and the lounge privileges. Another highly popular choice among golfers for residents and non-residents of Boca Pointe is the Club’s non-equity Premier Membership program. This membership is ideal for both seasonal and year-round Floridians. It allows members to enjoy all aspects of club life for however many months they are in Florida. Wow and wow again! The Club at Boca Pointe opens the New Year with many new members and a strong retention rate!

“Yes, that is not only a wow factor, but a beautiful way to start the New Year,” says Helen Karpel, general manager of the only country club in South Florida that allows members to enjoy the private club lifestyle without the traditional costs associated with an equity country club membership.

“Our continued membership growth is due to three things,” Karpel points out.

“First, we are the only country club that offers a variety of memberships, including equity and several non-equity options. Our most popular non-equity membership is the Premier, which uniquely meets the needs of both seasonal and year-round members. The Premier membership offers members eight categories from social to golf to tennis to define their lifestyle, and it allows members to take as few as three months the first year and as few as four months from the second year and thereafter. Another popular membership is our Annual Golf, which is ideal for non-resident avid golfers.

“Secondly, while we have a strong marketing campaign that is generating more membership inquiries than ever before, our biggest referral base is still word of mouth from our existing members. This is a true testament to our members’ enjoyment at the Club and why we have such a strong retention rate.

“Lastly, but certainly not least, our Club has tremendous support from our equity members. Without their support, we would not be able to offer these unique membership options,” she concludes.

When asked what makes Boca Pointe so special to its members, Karpel replied, “It’s simple. Besides our unique flexible memberships, we offer a friendly membership with amenities that continuously progress to keep our members proud. Our newly renovated lobby offers a modern country club environment, our newly-refurbished 18-hole championship golf course brings beauty to the community, and the new Sports & Fitness Complex completed a year ago features a state-of-the-art fitness center, resort-like pool complex, and 16 Har-Tru tennis courts.

“Once inside the club, we provide a five-star dining experience in the main dining room, casual dining in the Freshe Pointe Café, coupled with super active card rooms and the most vibrant social programming in South Florida. The amenities and activities are just the tip of the iceberg because our Club also prides itself on offering unparalleled service to our members. ”

Access to good times and great memories is just a membership away. Boca Pointe’s unique flexible membership offerings are available whether you live in the Boca Pointe community or in the surrounding area, which stretches from Pompano Beach to Deerfield Beach in Broward County to the high rise condos in Boca and Highland Beach to various gated communities that have limited or no amenities.

To put these benefits into practical application, Karpel uses current members as an example. “The Club has members who are renters and owners of condos along A1A (the ocean) who wish to play golf in a private country club setting. The Club at Boca Pointe offers them several options, including the Annual Golf and the Premier memberships. This allows those seasonal Floridians a private country club environment during their stay in South Florida without the typical annual membership expense. Some of our members choose sports memberships and others enjoy social to fill their calendars with great fun. Our membership options are robust and meet most lifestyle needs.

If you are reading this blog and not a member, yet, we invite you to call membership at 561-864-8539 to learn more about these many options available to you.   Remember, anytime is a good time to define your playtime!

Golf Tip: Chipping Made Easy

By Buck Deibel, Golf Director at The Club at Boca Pointe, a Boca Raton Country Club

Chipping with a short to mid iron from just off the green is one of the most effective ways to hit a chip when you do not need to carry the ball far and you have moderate rough between your ball and the hole. This method is very similar to a putting stroke and has been used over the years by some of the greatest players in the game.

Depending on the amount of green you have to work with, choose the iron that will loft the ball a ¼ of the way and rolling the remaining 3/4s of the way to the cup. Many players hit this shot using their putting grip. At address, their weight is favoring their left side. With your hands slightly ahead, use your putting stroke and hit down on the ball with a descending blow. This swing takes the wrists out of the shot, making it easier to hit the ball solidly. This method also improves feel and helps control distance. Try this high percentage shot; it’s a sure way to lower your score.

The Club at Boca Pointe is a non-mandatory equity country club and has a professional golf staff available to its members daily, led by Buck Deibel, a PGA Master Professional. Golf members at the Club are excited with the completion of the golf renovations on its 18-hole championship golf course. Over the last two summers, the Club replaced the irrigation system, repaved the cart paths, replanted the fairways and tee boxes to celebration grass, and spruced up the collars around the greens.  If you are a golfer and not a member, yet, we encourage you to call membership at 561-864-8539 to learn about the many golf membership options. As a member, you will find Boca Pointe’s amenities wonderful and members very friendly!  The Club is entering a fabulous new era for our members!
