Woman receiving facial mask at beauty salonBy Lori Decibel | Member Services Director | The Club at Boca Pointe

You’re out in the sun playing golf or tennis perhaps swimming or just walking.  You cannot avoid that if you live in beautiful South Florida in general or the Club at Boca Pointe in particular.  Hopefully, you are protected with sunscreen.

While sunscreen is a must, so is maintaining your skin…and one way to do that is with regularly scheduled facials at the Sports & Fitness Complex in the Spa. Open to anyone, whether you are a club member or not, facials are very important to maintaining that young healthy look.

What are the benefits of a basic facial? Basic facials deeply cleanse skin and may help fight certain skin problems, such as mild acne or dryness. The treatments are very relaxing and leave faces glowing.

Although it is possible to achieve healthy skin at home, many people turn to skincare professionals when they need some extra help.  One treatment they often turn to is the basic facial. Though the name is unassuming, the treatment can truly benefit skin, especially because every facial is tailored to the individual’s skin type.

A basic facial cleanses pores, exfoliates away dead skin cells, and treats common skin concerns with a custom mask. It is meant to rejuvenate faces and pamper clients.

Aestheticians massage a cleanser into the face, neck, and décolletage to remove any traces of makeup and dirt. Using warm water paired with a facial sponge, cloth, or cotton pad, they remove the cleanser, dry faces, and evaluate skin. This step helps them determine what type of custom mask they will apply later.

Next, aestheticians buff away dead skin cells with an exfoliating cream or scrub and opens up pores with steam. At this point, they may perform extractions. This process is done to clear individual pores that have become clogged with excess oil or dead skin cells, which can form blackheads and acne. Aestheticians will perform the extractions either by hand or with a special metal tool. Following that process is a relaxing massage of the face—and often the upper body, too—that may be used to improve lymphatic drainage.

Aestheticians then apply a custom mask, perhaps a clay-based one to treat oiliness or a hydrating one to combat dryness. Finally, the facial concludes with a serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen if it is daytime. And, when you are finished, your face feels like and looks like a new face.
spaThat’s one of several services offered at the Spa in the Sports & Fitness Complex.  It is available to anyone – you do not have to be a member of the Club to take advantage of healthy skin. Appointments are available Monday through Saturday; please contact Rachel at 561- 929-8400 to book your appointment!

boca-pointe-29Can you believe that…

  • Fall is right around the corner?
  • Inquiries are coming in on a steady basis through the Club at Boca Pointe’s website and Facebook page?

But why, you ask?

Because the Club at Boca Pointe has the solution to the most typical questions being asked by those who want a country club experience without the typical country club commitment.

1.  You do not have to live in the Boca Pointe community to play at the Club at Boca Pointe.  The Club is the only full service, private, equity country club in South Florida that is not mandatory.  Members join the Club because they want to, not because they have to, and may join as non-equity members.

2.  Under the unique Premier membership program, members may define their own lifestyle by not only choosing the number of months they want to be members, but also the level of activities they want.  For example, a Premier membership is available for as few as three consecutive months for the first year and then four or more months thereafter.

All of the Premier membership categories have club/ social privileges, which includes full dining (three restaurants and two lounges), use of the Sports & Fitness Complex and Club pool, access to all the social activities arranged by a social director, as well as card and Mah Jongg play.  Tennis and golf can be added to the membership for an additional fee.

“The Premier membership continues to be a huge success with a very high renewal rate,” says a proud Helen Karpel, general manager of the Club.  “We have members from areas such as Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, as well as throughout Boca Raton and all the way up to Highland Beach.

“The high retention rate demonstrates that we have the right membership programs that provide a rewarding country club experience with a reasonable pricing structure.  Many of our Premier members are accustomed to driving up to 30 minutes to the Club, which is very familiar to those from the Northeast where the clubs are non-residential.” Karpel adds.

If your only interest is golf, the Club at Boca Pointe has an Annual Golf membership program that answers this need.  It also offers lunch and lounge privileges with dining access one time a week in the main clubhouse.

The Club at Boca Pointe is all about making new friends and enjoying them for many years to come, loving life, and creating many wonderful memories.  To learn more about the many membership options, please call 561-864-8539.

Lined out the door for dinner!  What is going on at the Club at Boca Pointe?

“In all the years I have been here, I’ve never seen this before,” says Helen Karpel, general manager of the only country club in South Florida where members do not have to live or play or dine.

“We’re seeing dinner room covers like we’ve never seen before,” she adds.  “Two weeks ago, we had more than 500 covers; this past Friday night we blew through 400 covers.

“While season is always busy and the holiday breaks bring in family in town, this year has been especially active. Our Club has really found its stride now that most of the upstairs and downstairs areas have been enhanced with recent renovations.  Members are filled with pride in their Club and finding the Club to be the place to be!

“Yet, we expect this to continue year round. The covers take a small dip in off-season – maybe a little more than 300 covers – but it is still lively and fun.  This is especially the case with the monthly soirees in off-season that invites a band in the restaurant to entertain while dining.  Off-season will kick off with a soiree in May – Happy Daze – then in June – the Rhythm Chicks, and in July – the Euphoria Duo.  It is sure to be lots of dancing and laughs. In addition to our member enjoyment in the dining area, we have a reciprocal dining program welcomes other high-end Clubs to dine at our Club.  Many outsiders from these other exclusive clubs find the Club at Boca Pointe their first choice!”

What makes dining at the Club at Boca Pointe so popular?

  • The Club at Boca Pointe is positioned as the friendliest country club in South Florida where members don’t ask to see your stock portfolio; they just say, “Hello, how is it going.”
  • The food – its quality, its savory taste.  Not only does the Club at Boca Pointe lay claim to the best deli bar in town, but the variety of choices for the buffet or on the menu is also awesome.
  • The Club at Boca Pointe, one of the best country clubs in Boca Raton, constantly hears compliments about the warmth and friendliness of the wait staff.
  • The reasonable pricing as far as Boca Raton and Delray eateries are concerned because the Club at Boca Pointe, provides its members with high quality food at moderate prices, for example: A two-pound lobster with all the trimmings from soup to salad to dessert for $45 illustrates the point only too well.
  • It is the place where families and friends want to be on Friday night, whether dancing to lounge music or feasting on a top-of-the-line, delicious dinner choice.

The beauty of it all is that anyone can dine at the Club at Boca Pointe! Yes, anyone…as long as they have a membership.

Membership has its privileges.  And, one of the many privileges and thrills of being a memberis to dine at the Club at Boca Pointe.  Yet, there are many other privileges and thrills enjoyed by members beyond dining – the robust social events, card / Mah Jongg games, sports and fitness complex, 16 Har Tru tennis courts, and the 18-hole championship golf course.

By virtue of being a non-mandatory equity country club, the Club at Boca Pointe has been able to establish the most flexible membership program in the industry. Here are some of the examples of the Club’s forward thinking:

  • Members can enjoy the benefits of country club style living without the typical upfront financial commitment often associated with private country clubs.
  • Members can design their own lifestyle membership.  For example, the Club’s Premier program offers a variety of flexible options, starting with a social only membership to adding tennis and golf as exciting additional privileges. Memberships are available from three months to 12 months the first year and then from four months to 12 months from the second year and thereafter.
  • There are a number of customized programs available through the Club’s state-of-the-art Sports and Fitness Complex.
  • Memberships are available to anyone no matter where they live.  There are members from Highland Beach to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.  Whether you live at Boca Pointe or a community nearby, there is a membership that fits your lifestyle.

From the staff to members, new members will receive a warm and friendly greeting at every visit with a sincere heart to integrate them into the Club.  This is why the popular growing Premier membership sustains an extremely high retention rate – once a member, you never want to leave!  Why not call 561-864-8539 today to learn about the membership option that best suits your interests?

BOCA-POINTE 9 (1)An excitement can be felt at the Club as people see, hear and learn that the Club at Boca Pointe offers something fun for everyone…no matter the person’s background, age or hometown – local, national or international.

Whether your passion is playing a game of golf or tennis, attending a lecture about the Middle East or a lighter subject, playing cards or Mah Jongg in the very active card rooms, enjoying dinner in the new Grand Café, dining in the two other excellent restaurants, or taking a fitness class in the Sports & Fitness Complex – there is always something to fill your calendar!  As a member of the Club at Boca Pointe you can decide how full your calendar will become each and every week!

boca-pointe-132One of the very appealing benefits of joining a country club is the opportunity to connect with other members who become good friends and share the same interests as you.  You can be sure that there is something for every personality!  For whatever free time you have on your calendar, the Club will have a great option for you to enjoy that time!  In addition to your sports and fitness opportunities, you can make dining and happy hour plans weekly as well as fill that calendar with a variety of social activities.

You can play bridge, canasta, Mah Jongg or just about any other game in the card rooms but that, too, is just the tip of the iceberg.  There are close to 300 different events scheduled during the year by Jane Young, the Club at Boca Pointe’s social director.  The events range from the only FAU Learning Center in South Florida away from the FAU campus (featuring top professors talking about interesting topics) to Broadway shows to a Showtime series with top talent coming to the Club.

Some might say, “Enough already!”  But at the Club at Boca Pointe, enough is never enough to keep the members engaged, happy and clamoring for more.  The Club at Boca Pointe is the only country club in South Florida where members can literally define their own membership—the activities when and where they want to participate.

That’s right! The Club at Boca Pointe is not your typical “father or grandfather’s country club.”  It is a club for today – it is progressive and flexible in its country club approach.  Yes, Boca Pointe has the traditional golf course, tennis, and athletic center, but that is where the “traditional” ends.

“We feature clubs within the country club that are designed to further build friendship where people of like interests can meet and share experiences,” says Helen Karpel, general manager of the “happening” Club at Boca Pointe.  “Whenever people of like interests can get together it just strengthens relations and helps build new friendships.”

Some of the Club’s groups are targeted for specific audiences such as the Boomers, Boca Unos (singles), and Today Life Continues.  Members can participate in these groups by just checking the calendar each week.  The groups offer a variety of activities catering to a targeted audience.

boca-pointe-47The Club at Boca Pointe is the only club in South Florida that offers flexible memberships where members can define their own lifestyle for as few as three consecutive months the first year while in sunny Boca Raton. “Our Premier membership program is one of the hottest tickets in town,” beams Ms. Karpel.  “Floridians and/or renters can become first time members and take advantage of the menu of opportunities offered under the Premier membership program. Former equity members – who left the Club prior to September 1, 2013 – may return as a Premier Social or Tennis member for seven to 12 months.”

The biggest club on campus is the Adventurers Club made up of more than 200 members.  Created in the 1990s, the Adventurers Club is dedicated to creating events that members would not normally undertake on their own or through the traditional club activities. There is a waiting list for join – but it is well worth the wait!

The newest group is “What’s Up.”  As its name indicates, it features speakers discussing what is happening in the world around us.  The speakers and subjects are topical and provide members with a unique perspective as to what is happening.

In addition to the Adventurers Club and What’s Up, there are many other attractive clubs – the Photography Club, Volunteer Club, and Creative Writing group to name a few. “We encourage our members to create clubs around common interests in addition to participating in the extremely active calendar of existing clubs,” adds Karpel.  “But with that said, if a member just wants to enjoy the casual Boca Pointe lifestyle, we encourage that as well…maybe sitting by the pool reading a book and basking in the warm sun sounds like the perfect day for you!

“The concept of clubs within a club is important to know about because it helps understand the robust nature of the Club’s social activities.  Simply put, the Club at Boca Pointe offers a way to make friends, create memories and love life.

The Premier membership is available from three to 12 consecutive months the first year and then from four to 12 months thereafter.  Members can pick and choose their activity level from Club/social to adding golf, tennis, or a combination of both.  Premier Members are enjoying the full benefit of a country club experience without making the traditional year-round, buy-in financial commitment of most private country clubs.  For members wishing to mainly play golf or tennis, there are also annual memberships available.

“The Club at Boca Pointe is different – it is life changing because it opens up a new world to you.  The Premier membership allows you to try it out for several months and then extend that membership once you realize what a wonderful time you area having at the Club.”  Do you want to know more?  The Club welcomes you to call 561-864-8539 to set up a visit, take a tour, and learn about the many membership options available to meet your own unique lifestyle!

boca-pointe-1What defines members of one country club over another, asks one prospective member at the Club at Boca Pointe?

“Simple,” says Helen Karpel, general manager of the Club at Boca Pointe. “At the Club at Boca Pointe, members want to belong…they want to be part of an extended family…they want to enjoy friendships and have companions to share life in the good times as well as hard times.  At other private country clubs in South Florida, if you live in the Club’s community, you have to be a member; this is not the case at Boca Pointe.

“Most of the country clubs in South Florida are mandatory equity.  The members must live on property, and as property owners, they have no choice other than to be a member of the Club.  The Club at Boca Pointe is considered a non-mandatory equity club, which means property owners join because they want to be a member – it is a choice that the Club appreciates and strives to show that appreciation through outstanding service and friendliness.

“Additionally, the Club welcomes members who do not live in the Boca Pointe community.  You can live a couple of miles away in an adjacent town like Highland Beach, Deerfield Beach or Pompano Beach and whether you own or rent you are welcome to become a member of the Club at Boca Pointe.” Ms. Karpel emphasizes.

“Members choose to join the Club for many reasons, one of which is the Club’s reputation as being the warmest, friendliest and most social club in the area.  Members treat each other like extended family.  If a member has a problem, illness or family issue another member or two or three is there to help.  Friendly smiles and warn hellos are heard throughout the Club!” she adds.

The Club at Boca Pointe, a country club in Boca, has a welcoming menu of membership options for seasonal and year-round Floridians that allows members to define their own lifestyle of activities.  For example, the Premier membership program offers eight appealing categories for as few as three consecutive months the first year and as few as four consecutive months the second year and thereafter with the option to take as many as 12 months.  This membership is available without the financial commitment typical of mandatory country clubs (no equity, no bonds).

All of the Premier members enjoy Club privileges, which includes all social activities, events, dining opportunities (three restaurants and two lounges), card rooms, Mah Jongg, and the Sports and Fitness Complex.  Tennis and golf can be added to the membership.

The Club at Boca Pointe also offers an Annual Golf membership for those who want to play on a championship 18-hole golf course as opposed to playing at public courses. This membership is perfect for the avid golfer who just wants to play golf and enjoy some dining privileges.

For new members who want to start at a slower pace, there are three attractive introductory memberships.  They include the 30 day Passport membership and Annual Tennis and Annual Sports & Fitness memberships.

With so many options, the Club at Boca Pointe encourages you to call 561-864-8539 to learn about the one that meets your needs the best!

When you’re hot, you’re hot!  This is what Helen Karpel, general manager of the Club at Boca Pointe says when describing the on-going response to the unique Premier membership offered exclusively by the club.

“We have a considerable amount of research into determining what is happening in the marketplace and what is attractive to new residents and those spending the winters in South Florida.  Among the things the Club at Boca Pointe learned:

  • People want a country club experience without the typical financial commitment of a country club.
  • People want flexibility in being able to choose what types of activities they will participate in.
  • People do not want to make long-term commitments.
  • People want to be able to live where they want and play at a country club that is just like their Northern situation.
  • People want a membership to coincide with the time they are in South Florida.

“These wishes embody the essence of our Premier membership,” Karpel adds.  “We fashioned the Premier membership offering to match exactly what our research told us.”

A Premier member at the Club at Boca Pointe can:

  • Live anywhere they want and play at the Club at Boca Pointe.
  • Become a member for as little as three months for the first year and then a minimum of four months every year thereafter.  The Club has many members who started with the minimum and grew into a full 12-month Premier members as their life-styles changed.
  • Choose any level of activity starting with the basic club/social membership, which entitles them to the full run of the club.  This includes all dining and lounge facilities, themed dinner dances, lectures, many other social events, use of the Sports and Fitness Complex, Club pool, and card / Mah Jongg rooms.  Golf and tennis privileges are driven by the category chosen within the Premier membership, which permits avid golfers and tennis players to add golf or tennis privileges in different combinations.

“All of this access to the Club is without the typical upfront buy-in financial commitment required by most country clubs whether they are in South Florida or elsewhere in the country,” she adds. “Our inquiry level from new prospective Premier members is running very high.  We continue to get inquires from the Northeast corridor, Chicago, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Canada and even as far away as California.

“The beauty of the Premier Member is their ability to blend right in.  There is never anyone sitting on the sidelines waiting for a bridge or canasta game or a tee-time or tennis game.  Our staff as well as equity members make sure that the Premier members are engaged in the activities in which they have chosen as part of their membership.  This is one of the main reasons our retention rate for returning Premier members is very high.”

Boca Raton Golf Club Can you believe the “season” is almost over?!  Off-season always creeps up faster than we expect, and with a new season always comes healthy change.

For members at the Club at Boca Pointe who are year-round Floridians, it typically means saying goodbye to seasonal members who are near and dear but looking towards next year’s reunion while enjoying the summer. It also means a time of less traffic in the community, more room for a Friday night dinner at the main dining room or even a Saturday dinner at the club’s sparkling new Grand Café, which has become one of the hot new restaurants for members and their guests.

Just as springtime ushers in the growth and renewal of plant life, spring and summertime at the Club at Boca Pointe ushers in its own “growing season” for the Club’s upgraded fairways.  With the fairways cleared and Celebration grass planted over the 2014 and 2015 summers, each season the grass grows in thicker and the play is better!

This off-season is also ushering in the completion of the renovations in the golf area for the Club at Boca Pointe.  “Plans are being finalized for the makeover of the men’s locker room and the golf pro shop,” says Helen Karpel, general manager of the Club.  “This project is scheduled to start in May with an estimated completion before the start of the new season.

“Both areas will get a new fresh look and provide a very warm feeling for the men and for the golfers who go through the pro shop regularly.  We are excited with the plans and the enhancement this will add to the Club. The facilities have been designed to match the needs of the membership as well as the décor of the beautifully new designed downstairs lobby, Grand Café and lounge.

“This is not just a freshening of the pro shop.  It is a completely new makeover with space for Buck Deibel, our director of golf, and Rick McGee, our golf professional.  It also provides the all-important check-in desk with the club’s outstanding staff behind it. Space for retail sales has been designed to be commensurate to what our members have been purchasing over the years.”

In addition to the final stage construction for the golf department, the Club will have a few additional upgrades. The new Grand Café will have its final construction phase with the addition of an outdoor seating area and the Club’s driveway and valet will be getting a facelift.

Concurrent to the end of the season is also the beginning of the full growing season for the golf course. While the new Celebration grass planted over a two-year period is taking hold nicely, tee boxes will continue to be groomed, and the Club may also undertake enlarging some of the tees to accommodate the amount of play.

Unlike most clubs in South Florida, the beauty of the Club at Boca Point’s programs is that you do not have to live in Boca Pointe to play there.  If you want to know more, please call 561-864-8539!

On one hand, there was the PGA in Palm Beach Gardens and on the other hand there was the Club at Boca Pointe! Interesting choice, one might say!

Not so for Sandy and Mark Goldberg, transplants from Pittsburgh. “Hands downs,” says Mark, a semi-retired attorney, “the Club at Boca Pointe wins!  No questions about it.” And, seven years later, they are almost full-time residents at Boca Pointe and Premier members of the Club.

“I had previously belonged to another country club in Boca so was somewhat familiar with the area; I had also previously rented for several years at the PGA Club in Palm Beach Gardens where I have some friends.  The PGA Club is more of a resort than a country club. You never felt like you “belonged,” where as in a true country club environment, there is a much greater sense of family, camaraderie and being part of something special.”

Of all the country clubs in South Florida why did the Goldbergs choose the Club at Boca Pointe?  In his own words:

  • The Club offered several different membership opportunities that were very flexible and reasonable and met my needs.
  • The available rental properties were lovely and reasonable.
  • The location of Boca Pointe is fabulous, right between Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, with easy access to both places by I-95 or the Turnpike.
  • The people are very welcoming and friendly.

“After renting for three years, we decided this was the place for us and we found a fantastic apartment overlooking the Clubhouse and the golf course through one of the people I play golf with,” explains Mark. “After moving into our remodeled condo, we can’t believe how fortunate we are to be here.

“Among the many things that attracted us to the Club at Boca Ponte was the flexible membership program that is offered under their Premier membership program.  No other country club in Florida offers this type of membership. We are able to join and pay dues only for the number of months we intend to be in Florida. We have gone from three months to 9 or 10 months this year – maybe 12 months next year!”

The Club at Boca Pointe is the only club in South Florida where members can enjoy an equity country club experience without requiring an equity buy-in or the other typical country club financial commitments.  It is the only club offering a Premier membership program where the members get to choose what level of activities they wish to participate in.  Memberships are available for three months to 12 months in the first year and then from four months to 12 months thereafter with opportunities for club/social, golf and tennis.  There are also opportunities for annual memberships for golf and tennis only.

“We are considered full time members with all the privileges,” Mark added. “We are a very integral part of the country club community – attend meetings, most social functions, Men’s and Women’s golf leagues, yearly religious services, and the sports and fitness complex.  There are plenty of activities at the Club that one could be busy every day and night.

“Perhaps the most wonderful part of the Club at Boca Pointe is the people. We have made so many new friends here, and I mean friends. Our social life consists of golf events and mixers where you can select your partner or the golf pro will match you up (a wonderful way to meet new people); we also attend dinners and dinner parties, lectures, live shows, card games, and the list goes on and on.

“We would be remiss if we did not talk about the Club staff, which is beyond description. I have belonged to other very high profile country clubs both in Pittsburgh and in South Florida, nowhere is the staff better, more accomplished, friendly and accommodating than here at Boca Pointe.

“The dining room staff is unbelievable, most of whom have been at the Club for many years. They know your name and greet you when you enter and during the meal, they know and remember your favorite drink, always with a big smile on their faces. The golf course staff is so friendly and always willing to assist in arranging a golf game on short notice and introducing new members and getting them involved.

“The food is unbelievable and I consider myself somewhat of a foodie. Chef Terry prepares some of the finest selections of gastronomical delights, from Friday night brisket and salmon dinners to specialty meals throughout the week; there are ever changing menus that are very diversified and always special holiday dinners … but, I must warn you, you must watch out or the pounds will keep multiplying!!! Desserts, happy hours – what more can I say – I love it!

“The physical facilities at the Club are first class as well! The Club has undertaken an extensive remodeling refurbishing project over the past several years: the golf course fairways and tee boxes were redone in the last two years, a new state-of-the-art sports and fitness complex was opened last year, the main clubhouse lobby meeting areas and downstairs restaurant were also beautifully and tastefully redone.

“My wife Sandy and I would, without question, recommend the Club at Boca Pointe to anyone who wants to spend just a few months or longer in paradise.” If this is you, the Club welcomes you to call 561-864-8539 to ask questions and learn more about the membership programs, and if you want to taste and feel Mark’s experience, we invite you to set up an appointment to talk in person and take a tour.

Broadway dancing at the Club at Boca Pointe!  Huh!

How can that be? Is it part of the Club’s busy entertainment schedule? Nope! Not by a long shot!

“It’s just another notch in the creative fitness programming designed to encourage members to keep healthy and in shape,” says Sherri Giannone, director of athletics at the Club at Boca Pointe…the only full service country club in South Florida that offers flexible memberships for snowbirds as well as year around residents.

“We have found that creating new programs not only encourages members to keep coming to fitness classes, but also brings people out who might not be working out as much as they should,” explains Giannone. “Variety is the spice of life…or, I should say the spice for coming to the fitness center.”

The Broadway Dance Class features a 30-minute program that includes a fun warm-up with an exciting medley of Broadway show songs and then into an exercise routine.

“The first time out, it was successful,” Giannone added. “We will continue to add creative program and perhaps extend the Broadway Dance Class.”

The Club at Boca Pointe offers a wide variety of membership opportunities all built on the premise that you can enjoy the country club lifestyle without the typical country club financial commitment. Uniquely, the Club is a non-mandatory equity club, which means the Club offers both equity and non-equity memberships!

The heart of the flexible membership program is the ever-popular non-equity Premier membership program.  This features a minimum membership commitment of three-months to 12-months for the first year and then four-months to 12-months thereafter.  However, the membership flexibility does not stop there.  There are also special membership offerings for those members interested in golf or tennis only or even a combination of sports and fitness only.

Unlike most clubs in South Florida, the beauty of the Club at Boca Point’s programs is that you do not have to live in Boca Pointe to play there.  If you are reading this and want to know more, please call 561-864-8539 to learn about the program that best meets your interests!
